Class Experience

Sushi can be a wonderful side dish or complete meal depending on what you choose to place inside your sushi roll. In this class students will follow along with me in a step by step fashion as I demonstrate 2 styles of sushi using filling of their choice. The two styles of sushi we will be making are:

1) “Makizushi” is a type of sushi where rice and ingredients are carefully rolled in a sheet of seaweed, which is then sliced into smaller pieces.

 and

 2) “Uramaki”’ This type of sushi roll is turned “inside out,” with the rice on the outside and the nori on the inside wrapped around the ingredients, then sliced into smaller pieces.

During this class students will learn how to:

1) Season sushi rice using 3 ingredients
2) Slice and prep raw vegetables
3) Prepare fillings of their choosing for sushi
4) Roll sushi using a bamboo mat
5) Carefully slice sushi rolls for serving
6) Plate sushi

This class is inclusive, which means students of all abilities are welcome. If you student needs any accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure that they have the best possible class experience.
Learning Goals
My hope as a teacher is that students of "sushi making" would go away with a smile and knowledge to make this dish again, and again. As with many of my other recipes on Outschool, my desire is that the student will not just keep this skill to themselves, but go on to share it with others.
