50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class students will learn how to make their own homemade gummy bears from scratch. Topics covered in class will be how to use real juice for sweetener and make our favorite candies a little healthier than the commercial processed gummies. Class breakdown will be juicing our own citrus fruits and working with gelatin. Then we will be adding our gelatin base into our gummy bear molds and allow to them to cool. My style of teaching is allowing students to follow along while I demo how to cook or bake. I will provide individual feedback for each student during live class through zoom. No student gets left behind. So rest assure that we will be building kitchen confidence and allowing students to enjoy cooking. All students will have the chance to ask questions via zoom and classroom. Students will be able to interact and ask questions and talk to Chef Andy. No prior kitchen experience necessary. Everyone is welcomed in my classes.

Supply List
Ingredients: 2-3 big oranges or small enough to make 1 cup of juice or 1 cup of real orange juice plus 1 lemon, 2 tbsp unflavored gelatin, 1 tbsp honey or more, food dye, 2 tbsp sugar optional Equipment: Gummy bear molds (sold on amazon for under $10), small sauce pot, citrus juicer, spatula, dropper, small bowls to mix mixture, strainer Notes: Making Different Flavors Feel free to use different juices to create other flavors. Avoid pineapple, kiwi, mango, ginger root, papaya, figs, or guava juice. They contain an enzyme (protease) which can prevent gelatin from setting firmly. You can also adjust the amount of honey if you want your gummies to be sweeter or less sweet. Using The Right Mold Most small silicone molds will work with this recipe, so you can also get creative with the shape of these healthy gummies!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi,
My name is Andy Suarez. I am a full time Chef instructor from Chicago. I have been teaching kids and adult cooking classes focusing on fun interactive scratch cooking. I especialize in international cuisine which means the possibilities are endless. Cooking food from the first step until the last one is very fun to see how things are made. I am super excited to teach and inspire the next generation of creative chefs.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Culinary management and in Culinary Arts. I have worked as a chef, culinary instructor, cook, caterer and food stylist. I currently teach and offer in home private fine dining. I am also teaching international cooking classes and hope to inspire your kids to enjoy cooking as much as I do.
My values behind my teaching is that I want people to understand food in the way that it connects us all. Food and teaching allow me to create a fun but very informative environment where people can allow cooking to be an art expression regardless of age or level. I welcome any level to attend my cooking classes and learn what it takes to be a chef or to become passionate about cooking. No one gets left behind in my classes. Everyone learns differently so I make sure I can give everyone individual attention and feedback. But most importantly I want my students to join my classes to have fun and learn skills they will always remember from a trained professional chef.
Here are my favorite things to do as an individual and not just a chef. I love to garden and buy a lot of houseplants! :) I also enjoy playing Tennis, Soccer and Longboarding. My number one goal is to travel more and learn more about cuisines. Hope you guys can join me for my variety of cooking classes.
