In this one time cooking class students will learn how to make homemade tomato marinara sauce for pasta. In this class students will learn by doing! Our lesson will take us from preparation through the completion of the meal. We will review kitchen and food safety for the meeting, discuss ingredients, equipment and alternatives. By the end of the class students will be able to: discuss kitchen safety, dice vegetables, cook a wonderful heart healthy tomato based pasta sauce to share, and explain how they made a healthy dish from fresh ingredients.
I am offering this class as a healthy introductory class for older students to begin cooking meals from scratch. I have been cooking, baking and feeding people my whole life. After having a heart transplant several years ago, I have committed to studying nutrition. My cooking focuses on foods that are whole, natural, and heart healthy for my family.
2 files available upon enrollmentA list with specific amounts of ingredients will be provided to all learners upon enrollment. Ingredients: olive oil, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, salt, pepper, bay leaves, crushed tomatoes, dried pasta of your choice Equipment: 2 big pots (3 quarts or larger), long heat resistant spoon for stirring sauce, chef's knife, and cutting board, colander to drain pasta, can opener for the canned tomatoes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This is a cooking class that involves the use of knives and a stovetop. Because of the dangers involved parents must be present in case of accidents, but not on camera for the class. The live class will take the students from the preparation through the completion of the dish.
