Cooking Dinner and Book Chat: Quesadilla Casserole Style

In this one day course we will prepare and cook a Quesadilla Casserole from start to finish, clean up the kitchen, set the table and discuss some of my favorite books.

Class Experience

Students will learn the following--
--How to make a delicious dinner by themselves.
--How to clean up after making dinner and set the table.  
--Some great books that they can read.  
I graduated with a BA in English and Spanish for secondary school teaching.  I have always loved reading and teaching book studies to students of all ages.  I have taught English, Spanish, ESL, history and religion classes to students ages 7-18 in the public schools and in private settings. I have taught many book studies to ages 8-17 including but not limited to: The Old Man and the Sea, Revolution is Not a Dinner Party, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Red Badge of Courage, The Great Gatsby, Bud, Not Buddy, The Outsiders, The Scarlet Letter, Tom Sawyer and others.  I am currently teaching a Keeper of the Lost Cities book club on Outschool for ages 10-14.  Reading is one of my passions and I love sharing that with my children and my students. 
No homework.  
I will send out the recipe about 1 week before the start of class.  Here are the needed materials:
3 12.5 ounce cans of chicken breast (I buy mine at Walmart)
1 package of corn or flour tortillas (whichever you prefer-- medium to large size)
1 pound of shredded cheddar cheese
4 cups of Mexican cheese
1 cup of chicken  broth
2 cans of cream of chicken soup
oregano
cumin
sage 
chili powder
2 cloves or garlic (or 2 tablespoons of minced garlic in a jar)
1 med onion cut in 4 pieces
1 can of green chilies

My family likes to top is off with sour cream and hot sauce and serve it with a fresh salad.  
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No assessment will be given. 
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using the oven and a blender or food processor.  Parents will need to be close by to help students with those kitchen tools if needed.
