Class Experience

Each day of camp we will be making lunch while learning the basics of cooking. In the first class, we will make buttermilk pancakes. The second class will be mac n cheese. The third class will be spaghetti and meatballs. The fourth class will be Sushi. The last class will be Quesadilla on homemade tortillas. I will start by telling them about safety in the kitchen. The students will be cooking in their kitchens as I demonstrate. My style is laid back and positive. The students will be free to talk to me and discuss what is happening in their kitchen. I will be talking as I cook. This is a hands-on class.

Learning Goals

The students should learn the basics of preparing a meal which should lead to a life long love of cooking.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Safety is important to us. We will be using stoves and knives. For younger students, it is advised that a parent assist, or is available nearby depending on their maturity level. There are possible allergens. If your learner is allergic to any of the ingredients, advise the teacher and she will give you an alternative recipe. All recipes can be made into vegetarian dishes. There are two choices a one week class or a five week class. This is due to parent demand. I hope one will work for your learner.
Supply List
The recipes will be included in the classroom for the whole week prior to class. The ingredients include flour, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, sugar, baking powder, salt, macaroni, buttermilk, cheese, dry mustard, bread, spaghetti, hamburger meat or substitute, Italian spices, parmesan cheese, sushi rice, rice vinegar, nori sheets, cucumber, avocado, carrot, soy sauce, cilantro, fresh lime, corn, black beans, cherry tomatoes, mayonnaise, quinoa. Substitutions are possible for every recipe. They will also need a sushi mat.
