Cooking & Baking with DeAnn: Make Dinner -Soup & Bread/Dessert (FLEX 14-18)
Class experience
** THIS IS A FLEX CLASS AND DOES NOT HAVE LIVE MEETINGS ** Students will make a dinner for their families each week, consisting of a soup and a bread or dessert. During the first class, learners will be taught how to make delicious homemade soup bowls and creamy potato bacon soup. While we work, we will talk about different soups and how we can modify a soup to change the flavor, texture, or thickness by using different ingredients. During the following weeks, students will learn how to...
Students will: • Learn to make dinner for their families once a week by making a variety of soups, as well as some breads and desserts. • Learn to modify a recipe to fit their own needs and tastes. • Share experiences with one another through the classroom. • Build recipe files and increase confidence in cooking and baking.
Cooking and baking are some of my favorite hobbies and I enjoy spending time making a variety of foods for my family. I have been making bread each week for my family for the last 15 years, and have been cooking and baking for my family for over 25 years. However, my hobby truly began when I was a young girl and I wanted to make and create different foods and dishes in the kitchen. I am excited to share this wonderful hobby with young chefs and create an excitement in this as well.
Homework Offered
This class has the best kind of homework. You will make delicious food...and then comes the hard part...eat and enjoy! :)1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
The supply lists and ingredients will change each week, depending on the type of soups, breads, or desserts we are making, and will be sent out 3 days before each weekly class begins so learners can plan and prepare for the upcoming week. As with all of my cooking and baking classes, I will include photos of the supplies and ingredients we will be using to make it easier for students to see and gather what they need for class. For the breads, learners can either user a stand-mixer or do the mixing and kneading by hand. (I will use a stand mixer in most classes, but will also demonstrate at least one recipe by hand.) Most of the classes will require these supplies: Rubber spatula Wooden spoon Measuring cups and measuring spoons Large soup pot 1-2 Baking Sheets/Cookie Sheets Non-stick cooking spray
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents are strongly encouraged to assist the learner in the kitchen. Learners will be using the stove and/or oven each week, as well as knives when cutting vegetables and preparing some of the food. Please be aware of allergens - these recipes may contain ingredients with soy, nuts, dairy, etc.
