Students will be learning different baking tips as we make a delicious key lime pie. The students and I will make the pie together during class. If students would prefer to make the pie at a later time, they may attend class and make the recipe later using the class video. The students will: -- Discuss why certain kitchen tools and utensils are used and how they are helpful for what we are doing. -- Practice following a recipe and talk about the cooking abbreviations used in the recipe....
Students will improve their skills and confidence in the kitchen while making a key lime pie. They will learn about using different utensils and why they are used for different things, and will discuss why presentation is important.
Cooking and baking are some of my favorite hobbies and I enjoy spending time making a variety of foods for my family. I have been cooking and baking for my family for over 25 years. However, my hobby truly began when I was a young girl and I wanted to make and create different foods and dishes in the kitchen. I am excited to share this wonderful hobby with young chefs and create an excitement in this as well.
No homework is required. Students should gather the required ingredients and kitchen tools and have them ready before class begins. (A photo of ingredients and kitchen tools for easy reference.)
2 files available upon enrollmentStudents may choose to participate and make the recipe along with me during class or follow along and make the recipe at a later time using the class video. To make the pie during class, students will need to gather these ingredients and cooking tools: 1 prepared graham cracker pie crust 4 oz. cream cheese, softened at room temperature for one hour 1 can sweetened condensed milk Lime Juice 8 oz. whipped topping (spray can whipped cream does not work as well) Green food coloring (optional - or other food coloring of choice works great too) Medium mixing bowl Rubber spatula Medium spoon Regular or butter knife Large metal or wooden spoon Electric beaters (or wire whisk) Can opener Cutting board and sharp knife (for cutting lime slice) Measuring cups (1/4 and 1/2) Small plate A full recipe will be provided once students are enrolled.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Parents, please be aware that students will be using an electric mixer or a wire whisk. Students will cut a slice of lime (for presentation purposes - optional) using a sharp knife at the end of class. Please check ingredients for potential allergens if needed.
