** THIS IS A FLEX CLASS AND DOES NOT HAVE LIVE MEETINGS ** Students will learn how to make a variety of delicious cookies and brownies throughout this class. We will make a new recipe each week. Learners will build their recipe files, share ideas, and feel confident in what they have made. These cookies are perfect for gatherings or celebrations with friends and family. Class Schedule: Week 1 - Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookies Week 2 - Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Week 3 - Pumpkin...
Students will: • Learn to make a variety of cookies and brownies. • Learn to modify a recipe to fit their own needs and tastes. • Share experiences with one another through the classroom. • Build recipe files and increase confidence in cooking and baking.
I enjoy hosting parties and planning celebrations for my friends and family. Cookies and brownies seem to make the perfect dessert for all ages and is always something people are excited about. I would like to share some of my favorite recipes with learners and help them grow their recipe files!
Our class has the best kind of homework! Make the cookies and then enjoy them! :) A flex class is fun and convenient because learners can make the cookies and brownies, as well as complete the assignments on their own time, but these classes are more fun when learners also interact with one another. Each week I want the learners to think about the recipe and the ingredients we are using. Why are these ingredients an essential part of that particular recipe? What ingredients could you add to change the recipe? I will ask questions about the cookies/brownies, recipes, or cookie-making process at the end of each week. Students should be prepared to share successes, as well things that might have been a struggle as they learned something new. Students will also be expected to share a photo with the class of at least 3 of their cookies or brownies. In the last couple of the class, I would like everyone to share a favorite cookie or brownie recipe with the class. This can be a recipe that you have created or one you have found from somewhere/someone else.
Supplies and ingredients will vary for each class. A supply/ingredient list with pictures (for those who like to have a visual picture of what we need) will be posted on Thursday/Friday. The full recipe will be posted to the classroom page every Saturday, so learners can gather the necessary supplies and have them ready when they want to make the cookies and brownies. Some typical supplies used in most classes include: A rubber spatula Measuring cups and spoons Wooden spoon Cookie/Ice-cream scoop (if available - a spoon will work great too) Medium-large bowls (or stand mixer) for mixing dough Cookie/baking sheets Parchment paper (if available)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parents - please be advised that we will be using the oven to bake the cookies and parental supervision is encouraged. We may also need to use a knife to cut butter or other ingredients, as well as the microwave to soften or melt ingredients. Please be aware of allergens as some of these recipes may contain chocolate, gluten, nuts, dairy, etc.
