Class Experience
Calling all baking lovers! In this 4-week course, students will learn progressively complex cooking methods beginning with frosted chocolate chip Applesauce Jumbles cookies in the first week and moving on to a Creme Brulee dessert in the second week. In the third and fourth weeks, students will decide as a class which recipes to use. I want students to really take ownership of their recipes so would like to get their input on the recipes we will complete for the 3rd and 4th weeks. We can...
Students will learn basic kitchen skills such as reading a recipe, measuring properly, and preparing and mixing ingredients using varied methods to achieve successful results.
I have been baking for over 30 years and specialize in creating delicious pies, breads, and cookies. I have provided professional-grade desserts, pies and cake pops for many birthdays, graduations, baby/wedding showers, and community celebrations. I am a graduate of the University of California at San Diego with a degree in Political Science. My teaching experience includes homeschooling my own two children for 18 years. I have also taught ESL online for the past 1 1/2 years. Fun fact about me: I began baking on my own as a latch-key kid in the 80's. Many of my first attempts were completely inedible! Now, after many years of experience and perfecting my craft, I'm excited to share my passion for baking with young learners!
Students are encouraged to upload a picture of their finished recipe to the classroom each week. Starting in Week 2, students should come to class prepared to discuss any successes/challenges with the previous week's recipe.
