Description
Class Experience
Students will: • Learn to make a variety of fun drinks and slushes. • Learn to modify a recipe to fit their own needs and tastes. • Share experiences with one another through the classroom. • Build recipe files and increase confidence in cooking and baking.
I enjoy hosting parties and planning celebrations for my friends and family. It's always fun to add a fun or fancy beverage for a special occasion or just for fun. I would like to share some of my favorite drink recipes with these young learners and help them grow their recipe files!
Our class has the best kind of homework! Make the drinks and then enjoy them! :) A flex class is fun and convenient because learners can complete the projects and assignments on their own time, but these classes are more fun when learners also interact with one another. Each week I want the learners to think about an ingredient that they think might be a good addition to one of the drinks we are making or have made. This will be fun and can almost be thought of as a scavenger hunt - what ingredients can you find (think about) to add to our drink? It might be a fruit...maybe a bit of flavoring or extract...maybe a different drink mix or even food coloring. It's good to be creative - creativity can be fun and exciting. I will ask questions about the drinks, recipes, or drink-making process at the end of each week. Students should be prepared to share successes, as well things that might have been a struggle as they learned something new. Students will also be expected to share a photo with the class of at least 3 of their drinks. In the last few weeks of the class, I would like everyone to share a recipe for a drink or slush - this can be a recipe that you have created or one you have found from somewhere/someone else.
Supplies and ingredients will vary for each class - a new supply/ingredient list and pictures, as well as the full recipe will be posted to the classroom page every Saturday, so learners can gather the necessary supplies and have them ready when they want to make the drinks. Some typical supplies used in most classes include: A rubber spatula Measuring cups and spoons Wooden spoon Medium-large bowls for mixing Medium saucepan A blender (first class only)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents, please be advised that we will need to use the stove during some classes to boil water or make drink syrup. Some classes will require the use of a blender to crush ice, or a knife to cut fruit. Please be aware of allergens - some of these ingredients may contain gluten, nuts, dairy, soy, etc.
