Cooking and Baking for Kids: Lunchtime Pinwheels

In this 4-week self paced course, students will have fun making five different pinwheels: Italian, Taco, turkey & cheese, hummus & veggie, and peanut butter & jelly. Let’s have fun making lunch!

Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be expected to follow the recipe to make a different recipe each week. The students will also post a picture or video in the classroom to share their completed recipe with the teacher and other students each week.

Class Experience

In this self paced course, students will be provided with instructional videos to make five different pinwheel recipes.  The students will make the recipes with the teacher's instructions (in the videos).  The students will also post a picture or video to share their recipes with the teacher.  *No previous cooking experience is required. **Please note that these recipes do not require heat for cooking.  (No oven or stovetop cooking required.)

The students will:
-practice following a recipe
-practice using kitchen tools to measure ingredients
-practice using kitchen utensils
-confidently share their completed recipes with the teacher/class (and their families).

In this class, we will make a different pinwheel recipe each week.  Here are the weekly recipes:
Lesson 1: Turkey & Cheese Pinwheel
Lesson 2: Italian Pinwheel
Lesson 3: Taco Pinwheel
Lesson 4: Veggie & Hummus and/or Peanut butter (or other seed/nut butter) & jelly

Lesson 1:
Turkey & Cheese Pinwheels
 The student will learn the tools, ingredients, and recipe required to make Turkey and Cheese Pinwheels to share with friends and family. 
Lesson 2:
Italian Pinwheels
 The student will learn the tools, ingredients, and recipe required to make Italian Pinwheels to share with friends and family. 
Lesson 3:
Taco Pinwheels
 The student will learn the tools, ingredients, and recipe required to make Taco Pinwheels to share with friends and family. 
Lesson 4:
Veggie & Hummus and Peanut Butter & Jelly Pinwheels
 The student will learn the tools, ingredients, and recipes required to make two recipes to share with friends and family: Veggie & Hummus Pinwheels and Peanut Butter & Jelly Pinwheels.

Parental Guidance
Parents, please be advised of the following potential hazards: the use of sharp kitchen tools and the risk of allergens. Parental guidance is encouraged.
Supply List
The students will make five different pinwheel recipes.  For each lesson, the students will be given a list of the ingredients and tools that they will need in order to make the recipe.  At the beginning of the course, students will also receive a shopping list for all five recipes.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
