I have been baking all of my life! I am an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts. I also teach Food and Nutrition in an Ontario High School and have taught many young people how to bake this recipe successfully. I love to share my joy of baking with students and to see their confidence in the kitchen improve.
Students may have to frost their cookies after class to ensure they are cooled properly. They will also have to clean their dishes after class.
24 hours before class the recipe will be uploaded to the classroom. However, students need access to the following ingredients and materials: butter (at room temperature), white sugar, brown sugar, eggs (2), vanilla, flour, corn starch, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, salt, rolled oats (not instant), raisins or chocolate chips, peanut butter (optional), sifted icing/confectioners/powdered sugar, milk Equipment needed: mixing bowls, mixing spoons, electric stand or hand mixer, measuring cups, measuring spoons, cookie sheet, oven, oven mitts, rubber spatula, cooking spray or parchment paper, cookie lifter, butter knife or spreader
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given informal, anecdotal comments during class to encourage them along.
55 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
This is a hands on, interactive cooking class. Students will need access to an oven to bake the cookies. They are encouraged to have access to a hand or stand mixer to help them to make the cookies and the frosting. However, we can work around it if you don't have one. There is an option for a peanut butter frosting if students are interested and are not affected by allergies. However, they can choose to make a simple butter cream icing if they wish.
