Class Experience

How did Adolf Hitler evolve from stateless immigrant and convicted of treason to lead Germany into WWII and embark on a path of annihilation and empire building? 

This one time class will trace Hitler's unlikely climb from obscurity into a notorious place in history.  Students do not need to have studied World War I or World War II to enjoy success in this class. 

The class will answer the above questions via a combination of slide presentation, discussion, video, images and/or audio clips...

Students will be able to describe Germany's government and economy after WWI and  before Hitler comes to power.
Students will trace Hitler's life from immigrant, to convict to Chancellor and Fuhrer.
Students will examine the evolution of the Nazi Party from the 1920s to mid-1930s.

I am a Holocaust trained educator who has taught the Holocaust through literature and primary source documents to students in grades 7 through 10.  I have studied at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, as well as a 3-week seminar at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem with 36 other educators from around the world. Additionally I have hosted an educator workshop on Holocaust Education and collaborated with the creators of the Echoes and Reflections curriculum.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Informal assessment throughout class with an virtual quiz at the end.

1 hour 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

Class focuses on Post-WWi Germany, Hitler and the Nazi party. We do not discuss concentration camps or the horrors of WWII. However, some students may mention these events during class.
