Class Experience

Students will learn in this class by covering fun topics in a round-table discussion format, similar to a Socratic Circle. I will post the topics of discussion a week in advance so students will know what will be discussed so they can choose to sign up if interested. Similarly, I will also give students the autonomy and choice to propose topics they wish to chat about! Students will be able to take turns speaking to each topic, interacting with myself as well as other students, potentially even making friends to keep chatting with and practicing English. I have a Master's Degree in English and have been working in English education for 8 years, so I will be using my teaching skills to help students advance in their English while also promoting fun conversations.

Week 1: (February 1): Learning to construct sentences and advance vocabulary. Favorite subjects in school, favorite sports, favorite foods, etc. Students will begin with basic greetings followed by learning how to better construct sentences in English, ending with revamping the sentences to incorporate more advanced and higher level vocabulary.
Week 2: (February 8): Learning to ask questions and engage deeper in conversation. Now that students have expressed their favorite interests in last week's class, students will learn the proper way to ask deeper questions to each other and keep the conversation going. We will practice questions using the white board to diagram them followed by practice speaking in a conversational circle.
Week 3: (February 15): All about vocab! This class will build on the prior two classes, taking into account topics discussed and building higher level vocabulary around those topics to expand our verbal dictionaries. Students will be creating frayer model worksheets to expand their knowledge and embed their learning.
Week 4: (February 22): Giving an oral presentation on the topic of choice. Now that students have mastered introductions, engaging in questions and deeper conversations, and practicing higher level vocabulary, students will get a chance to have a round table discussion on a topic of their choice followed by a presentation on the topic.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to advance their vocabulary, grow more confident in their public speaking English skills, and also learn conversational etiquette along the way as we discuss important world topics.
