What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1-2 hours per week. I try to provide weekly handouts that are recommended to be reviewed to add up to about 20 minutes weekly outside of class.Class Experience
Students do not need any experience or knowledge prior to this class. My teaching style for this course will be teaching basic phrases and vocabulary through images and repetition. Then students will get a chance to speak and respond to questions in Spanish so we can build friendships in the class through the language learned. Students will learn through repetition and connecting with me and other students. I always have cheat sheets already drawn out for learners to see conjugations in Spanish, and they use the cheat sheets to create conversation. With time they become more familiar with how conjugations work and no longer need the cheat sheets. Each lesson is learner led, meaning that the topic will be chosen based on the learners in the class and their ages, exposure to Spanish, etc. Topic A- How are you? What's your name, Where do you live? Topic B- Food+ To like Topic C- Pets + To have/To want Topic D- Friends/Family + To love+ Question words Topic E- Body parts+ To touch/ To see/ To hear/ eat Topic F- To play/Sports+ Games+Toys Topic G- To wear+ Clothes+ Colors+ Matching in boy/girl route Topic H- To be: Ser/Estar Topic I: To go+ Places+ Days of week Topic J: What do you like to do? + Activities+ Sports+ Instruments Topic K: Daily routine+ Furniture/House *If your learner has prior exposure to Spanish, please let me know, as I may recommend them to join a specific group/ section. *Important: In this class, I often use special vocabulary created to describe certain aspects of Spanish grammar, in order for learners to make connections and therefore grasp concepts in a fun way
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I often show short clips of songs from Youtube videos that are directly correlated to the material we learn in class.
I provide each enrolled learner with access to a Google classroom which includes songs, flashcards, and other materials in order to practice and have fun outside of class.
Supply List
A pencil and paper or notecards for occasional note taking. Notes are only recommended to be taken when advised by the teacher. This is few and far between as I recommend students take notes after class while watching the recordings or by copying vocab or phrases in the Google classroom.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have three years of experience living in Guatemala, a Spanish speaking country in Central America. I speak Spanish daily to native Spanish speakers, and am married to a native Spanish speaker. We are raising our son to be bilingual.
