Class Experience

Many people are intrigued by ASL (American Sign Language). This ongoing class will focus on teaching sign language vocabulary to Beginners. Each week will include a specific and limited theme. In the first half of the class, I will introduce and explain the sign vocabulary and the concept and/or origin behind the sign. Once the vocabulary has been taught, the class will engage each other using a question/answer format. While the interaction will likely be accumulative, the weekly theme will allow for newcomers to hop in any week.

2 - Greetings, Introductions (Hello, How are you, Fine, My name is.., etc.)
3 - Signing basic (sign language, deaf, hearing, etc.)

Classes are set for 45 minutes but may run longer to accommodate higher student enrollments. For example, a class of 4 students may take 45 minutes but in order to give each student a chance to use the signs and to "read" the signs, the time may be extended to 55 minutes.

This is not a class that I can get a substitute should I become unavailable. There are times when I'll have to issue a refund since Outschool collects payment on Sundays. I work very hard to manage my schedule around classtime but I'm also a parent of 4 homeschooled children and sometimes people plan things for us that are outside of my control. GURRRR...Life!

Finally, I typically work with Outschool on Mon-Wed. I rarely login to the platform outside of those days so if you message me, it may not be until Monday that I actually see it.
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! You've heard the proverbial saying, "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for the day. Teach a man to fish, he'll never go hungry again." The conveyance of knowledge from one person to another can not be understated. It is paramount to accomplishing whatever goals a person may have in life, however big or small. It's how we learn how to live within our family, learn how to improve and enjoy our hobbies, learn how to later become productive members of our community and all the while, imparting that knowledge on others around us. I enjoy teaching Logic, Christian Apologetics and Sign Language. I have a Bachelors degree in Business but my real vocation is working with students of all ages. I have been volunteer teaching since 2011 (as a homeschool mom and annual co-op teacher), working as an ESL online teacher since 2018 and working part-time as a Sign Language Interpreter since 2008. I'm excited to meet new students and grow in relationship with current and former students!
