1 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 60-minute workshop, students will improve their flexibility and strength through 40 minutes of intense stretching targeting the neck, shoulders, back, and hip flexors. Students will then spend 20 minutes working on tricks such as: chest/chin stand, needle scale, forearm/elbow stand, and backend variations. In person, my teaching style is very hands-on. To simulate this in an online setting, for the first portion of the class, I will demonstrate and exercise and then watch the class execute it. While I watch, I will call out corrections and adjustments to students by name. During the second portion of the class, I will give leveled options for the trick and then watch students individually. I will let students know when I am watching them, give them corrections or advanced variations, and let them try the trick again. This class will be highly interactive and I will adapt to each student’s skill level. Students should be flexible and strong enough to do a backbend with their shoulders over their wrists and have a split on at least one side.
Learning Goals
Students will gain an understanding of safe and effective flexibility. They will learn exercises to safely attempt contortion poses. This is a difficult skill and students may not achieve it in their first class, but they will progress by gaining strength and flexibility.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Advanced Flexibility can be dangerous without proper instruction. I’m a professional circus artist and have trained with many professional flexibility coaches. I’ve spent a number of years as a dance educator. In my courses, students will learn safe flexibility practices, how to take cues from their own bodies, understand the difference between dangerous pain and manageable discomfort, and how to increase their strength with their flexibility to avoid injury.
