This class is meant to be an introduction to maps and globes for an early elementary student. Using the book "Me on a Map" by Joan Sweeney as our guide, we'll cover the following information in a hands-on fun way: - What is a map and why do we need them? - What is a globe? - What are the 7 continents? - Where is my state? - Where is the student on a map?
I will provide a set of interactive documents prior to class starting that will need to be printed for each student. Students will need a pencil and colors for class. The documents are prepared so that students who are reading and writing can do so and those that are not will be able to follow along and color instead.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will not ask students to give specific information about their exact address, but to personalize what they are learning, I will ask questions about what state and city they are located in.
