In this dance class we will explore the fundamentals of Contemporary and Modern Dance. We will get grooving and moving in fun and challenging ways.
Class experience
CLASS STRUCTURE: What is contemporary dance? How can we make our bodies move in unconventional ways? How can we improvise? In this class we will establish the principal concepts of contemporary and modern dance, get grooving and moving through space (whatever space is available in your home), work on strengthening the core and finding joy through improvised movement. We will be completing a warmup, going through exercises, some improvisation and lastly, a choreographed dance. THE MATERIAL...
Students will get to explore some of the primary elements of contemporary and modern dance: 1) Understanding of space 2) Understanding of time and speed 3) Understanding of moving with or against the music 4) Understanding of weight use and momentum 5) Basics of Improvisation
I hold a BFA in Dance with a primary focus in Contemporary Dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Just a few logistics before we get started: It is nice to join the zoom meeting a few minutes early (if possible, otherwise no worries) so that I can help you with your setup. Just make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes. Find a room with some space to move (you may have to move some furniture around and make sure there is no cords or things you might trip over) and place your device on the floor so I can see your full body as you are moving. Other than that you are all set and ready to get moving!
