Class Experience
CONSUMER MATH is the first class of its kind, seeking to enhance the knowledge and understanding of how, where, when and why different math applications or computations, are used and applied in real-world situations by people every day. During our 12 weeks of instruction, we will explore and learn a variety of math concepts to help to fuel ones’ understanding, performance and personal acceptance to the need and usefulness of mathematics in everyday life. With an extensive background in special education and working with children and adults with special needs, I have seen the need for this type of class on Outschool ever since I began teaching on this platform several years ago. It takes a village and I would love to assist you and your child in an environment that is open, friendly and understanding to your special needs. As a life-long entrepreneur, a classroom math instructor (K-College), an author, athlete, coach and former professional entertainer & clown I utilize and know where we use math in our everyday lives. As I live and teach by the following 3-Rules: #1 I will never ask you to do anything I’m not willing to do first #2 I’m not going to do anything unless it’s fun #3 If we must do it, I’m going to find a way to MAKE IT FUN! I know what it takes to make math fun, exciting and simple to understand regardless of the applications and computations required. Math is not boring - Math Is ALIVE!
Homework assignments will be learning activities, possible community field trips (at your discretion) to learn more about the subject matter of that week, and handout worksheets to complete.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This class is designed for students with special needs who may need assistance from an adult within their home or location. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate with their children either during class and or throughout the weekly assignments. NOTE: Due to the nature of this class, we will not run a session with less than 5 students In the event you are unable to attend a live class, know that the class will be recorded for students when necessary.
