In this multi-day course your child will practice building, blending, reading and rhyming CVC words. Each week will focus on a different short vowel sound. Each class will begin with a review of the vowel sound for the week. Then your child will be introduced to a rhyme (word family - for example, the -at family) that we will blend and read together then write it on his/her whiteboard. Using a whiteboard and marker, your child will hear a word and add the beginning sound to the rhyme....
The students will be able to build cvc words using a, e, i, o, u with guidance. The students will be able to blend sounds together to read cvc words with guidance. The students will be able to identify rhyming words with guidance.
Optional Homework: After each class, see how many words you can read and write from the word families that we focused on that day. Also, be a word detective and tell an adult when you see CVC words that you can read in books, on signs and all around! Share your work with an adult at home!
Each learner will need the following items for EVERY class: 1 whiteboard 1 dry-erase marker 1 whiteboard eraser
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
