Class Experience

In this multi-day course your child will practice building, blending, reading and rhyming CVC words.
Each week will focus on a different short vowel sound. Each class will begin with a review of the vowel sound for the week. Then your child will be introduced to a rhyme (word family - for example, the -at family) that we will blend and read together then write it on his/her whiteboard. Using a whiteboard and marker, your child will hear a word and add the beginning sound to the rhyme. Together we will say the sounds in the word and blend the sounds together to read the word. This will continue with 4-5 words in that word family (words that rhyme or end with the same sound) then we will begin a new word family by changing the ending sound. We will build 4-5 words in the second word family. At the end of each class your child will be asked to make a rhyming word with a given word from each word family that was practiced in class.
Week 1 - We will focus on short a word families. Two different word families per day.
Week 2 - We will focus on short e word families. Two different word families per day.
Week 3 - We will focus on short i word families. Two different word families per day.
Week 4 - We will focus on short o word families. Two different word families per day.
Week 5 - We will focus on short u word families. Two different word families per day.

Student participation is key to student success! The students will be unmuted for full participation so please ensure that class is taken in a quiet environment. :) Also, taking turns is a great way to learn from other students! There will be times when the students will repeat after me, all answer together and take turns.

*Student should know their letter names and about 60% of the letter sounds. We will review letter sounds as needed to build words.
