Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this course, students will learn to write a well-developed and structured paragraph. This course does not have any live meetings, course information will be delivered through the use of video presentations that learners will use to learn. Class Video 1: Introduction to the Paragraph In this class, students will examine a model paragraph. Students will be introduced to topic sentences, supporting details that directly relate to the topic sentence and concluding sentences. At the end of class, students will label the parts of a paragraph. Class Video 2: Brainstorming + Organizing Ideas Using a Graphic Organizer In this class, students will learn how to brainstorm and use their best ideas to logically organize their ideas before writing. Class Video 3: Constructing a Paragraph In this class, students will write a well-developed paragraph that contains: 1. One controlling idea 2. Sentences clearly related to topic sentence 3. Logical order 4. Thoroughly developed examples/evidence 5. Closing sentence Class Video 4: Revision + Editing Students will learn how to revise (make work better) and edit (make work correct) and submit a final copy of their paragraphs for feedback. All work submitted on time will be reviewed. Upon completion of this course, learners can enroll in the Constructing a Good Essay course to continue to strengthen their writing skills.
