Description
Class Experience
Students will learn what anxiety is. Students will learn how to see anxiety as something that can be beat. Students will learn specific tools to use when they feel anxiety or other strong emotions.
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor/elementary school social worker. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker license, along with a School Social Worker License. I have been teaching children about mental health, mindfulness, and emotions for four years, and I love helping kids learn ways to manage their emotions and feel better!
There is no homework for this class, however, I encourage the students to recognize when they feel anxious, teach their families what they learned, and practice the tools they learn to calm down anxiety.
In classes 2-4, learners will need a piece of paper and things to color with. In class 2, I will offer a coloring page that can be printed out beforehand, but if learners do not have access to a printer, they can draw their own.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In this class we talk about "worry monsters" I explain to the children that monsters are not real and our worry monster is really anxiety. The worry monster helps the kids see that anxiety is something that they can conquer.
My worry monster story is based on other stories like "Fabulous Faith Meet My Worry Monster" by Melissa Webster, "Shrinking the Worry Monster" by Carol McMillin, and "Go Away Worry Monster" by Brooke Graham.
