Class Experience

US Grade 11 - 12
In this fifty-minute-long course, students will have the opportunity to join in creative activities to jumpstart figuring out what makes them unique. They will have a chance to reflect, share, and hopefully come up with a good topic for their college application essay. From there, the teacher will go over a PowerPoint slide with information about two different styles of college essays. Students will be introduced to an outline that will help them process their ideas - and then will leave with a homework assignment: to write their first draft of the Common Application College Essay.

What This Course Includes:
-Brainstorming Ideas for the College Essay
-Learning Two Different Essay Styles
-Outlining the College Essay
-Getting Teacher Feedback on Your Writing

For Homework (about 30 minutes - 2 hours, depending on the student)
-Writing the first draft of your College Essay

**DUE DATES are assigned for this course.
Along with teaching classes and providing feedback, teachers have additional classes they may teach and other responsibilities which require scheduling for completing the feedback. This is why due dates are assigned to be considerate of teacher’s time and also to ensure that the workload isn’t overlapping for learners. Feedback for student essays will be provided within a week of the due date.
Learning Goals
Students should come away from this class with a first draft of a college application or scholarship essay about their story. They should leave this class feeling confident about what story to tell and how to tell it.
