Description
Class Experience
Do you need to learn Algebra 2 but hate Algebra? Or maybe Algebra 1 was easy and you are ready for a challenge? If either of those describe you, then this is YOUR class! In this 8-week class, we will complete the fourth and final quarter of Algebra 2, meeting twice weekly with a semi-flipped class format. In a flipped classroom format, students watch a video that I created previewing the day's lesson, and while watching the video they fill out the lesson notes BEFORE class - the easy part...
Students will cover the Units 7 & 8 of Algebra 2, learning Exponential and Logarithmic Functions and Equations and Operations with Rational Expressions, Solving Rational Equations, and Direct, Inverse, and Joint Variation.
I LOVE high school students, and I have taught many high school math classes over the last several years. I am a certified teacher for grades 4-12 math, and hold a Bachelors in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. My focus is on truly UNDERSTANDING the CONCEPTS of math - not just rote memorization of the topics!
Students will be responsible for watching the lesson preview videos and completing the corresponding notes pages PRIOR to class each week so that we can dive deep in class. Students should expect to spend about 30 min to an hour on non-class days filling out the notes and completing any assignments that were not finished during class time.
Students will need the ability to print PDF's in order to print and complete each lesson's notes. Students also need a 3-ring binder to keep notes and other papers organized and accessible for class. In their 3-ring binder, students will need to keep some blank, lined, or graph paper for use during live classes. Students will also need access to a graphing calculator. If they do not have a physical graphing calculator, there is an app that will work that you can purchase for $4.99. *If students have already taken the Quarter 1, 2, or 3 of this class, no new materials are needed.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will be given exit tickets at least once a week to assess learning. Each unit will have 1-3 quizzes throughout the unit, and these quizzes will be graded to assess learning, and if student is working toward a letter grade, they will count toward their overall grade. Each unit has an optional unit test. If a student is working toward a letter grade, this test will be graded and will be required. Students can choose to complete the test and turn it in for feedback as well.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Students will have access to a Google Doc Student Calendar, links to Google Forms, and may use other websites such as Google Jamboard, Blooket, and Quizizz.
This class uses a standard Algebra 2 scope and sequence, and students will be provided the handouts for each lesson. These handouts are not to be shared with anyone or used for anything outside of class. Students will have access to a Google Doc Student Calendar and may use other websites such as Google Jamboard, Blooket, and Quizizz.
