US Grade 7
Welcome!! This is a 10 week Multi-Day summer course that will cover the key concepts in the 7th grade math curriculum according to the common core state standards. This class is perfect for students who are either going into 7th grade and want the advantage of being taught the key concepts before beginning the class, for students who want to keep their 7th grade math skills sharp, or for students who need a bit of remediation before entering 8th grade. During this 10 week course we will learn concepts in an interactive format. Students will be able to build understanding, have problems modeled for them, and have time to do independent practice where I can check for their understanding. At the end of each class students will be given a cumulative worksheet to cover material from the class (and previous classes). We will go over all correct answers at the beginning of the next class and students will have time to ask questions and discuss solutions and their processes of answering the questions. The following are the concepts that we will focus on each week (remember, there are 2 classes each week so we will make sure to dive into these topics thoroughly): Week 1: Properties of Numbers Week 2: Integers and Rational Numbers Week 3: Decimals and Fractions Week 4: Proportions and Similar Figures Week 5: Graphs Week 6: Percents and Percent Applications Week 7: Data Analysis Week 8: Geometry Basics Week 9: Measurements in Geometry Week 10: Equations and Inequalities **MAKE UP SESSIONS AVAILABLE IF NOT ABLE TO ATTEND SOME CLASSES!! (Message for details) I have taught math for 15 years in fun and interactive ways with much success. Though my approach can be characterized as energetic and engaging, the structure and detail of the class guarantees students will be presented knowledge in a way that cultivates mastery. Student learning is my passion, and I truly believe math can be mastered in a fun environment. I expect each student to come to class with a pencil and notebook, ready to take notes and ready to participate. I also expect students to give a good attempt on the worksheets that are given out each class, so I can check for understanding. During most classes we won’t use a calculator, however, if your learner requires accommodations where one is helpful, please message me, and they can use one during the lessons. I hope to see your learner in class soon!! Brian McNair
