30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This is a weekly class where students explore the rich tapestry of poetry, delving into its forms, styles, and themes. For each class, students will learn & practice close reading and critical analysis of poetry and then model the craft through their own writing. We'll examine imagery, form, them, and symbolism that defines the art form. From classic sonnets to experimental free verse, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of various poetic traditions and techniques. Students will hone their own artistic voices through a series of hands-on writing assignments. Guided by prompts and inspiration drawn from the works we study, students will craft their own poems, experimenting with form, rhythm, and metaphor to express their thoughts and emotions. This is meant to be both informative and fun...a place where students can explore their creative side through language, evoking emotion and reflection, and gain an appreciation for how words can connect us through time & distance. Topics Topic 1 - A Dream within a Dream (Poe) Topic 2 - Life is Fine (Hughes) Topic 3 - Touched by an Angel (Angelou) Topic 4 - All the World 's a Stage (Shakespeare)
