Spelling With Confidence - Fall Semester
Become a confident speller! This class is for those learners who need extra spelling support in a safe, encouraging space. Spelling rules are taught in a multi-sensory format, based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to spelling which is highly effective for struggling spellers and dyslexic learners. Homework assignments and teacher support & feedback are provided after each class, providing you with a full spelling curriculum!

Some learners don't find spelling to be intuitive, and it can easily frustrate them and cause discouragement. - Students will increase their spelling confidence and skills. As students learn spelling rules and become familiar with spelling patterns, their spelling accuracy and confidence will increase.
Allison Woolley has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis. She has homeschooled her children from kindergarten through high school and has seen the benefit of teaching this explicit manner of spelling to her own children, specifically the help it gives to struggling spellers and readers. Her experience also includes tutoring English Language Arts to 2nd – 6th graders, as well as and teaching other topics & leading various groups for children in pre-K through 8th grade.

Frequency: 3-6 per weekFeedback: as neededDetails: Two homework assignments will be given after each class. One will be an audio file with dictated sentences. The other assignment is to write a short story (one paragraph) using words that follow this week’s spelling pattern. Plan to spend 10-15 minutes on each of these. A Word List will also be provided each week with suggested multi-sensory activities to do at home to enable the learner to interact with and master the words covered in class.Letter Grade

Effective for dyslexic learners, this class uses Orton-Gillingham, a multi-sensory approach. Engaging lessons, interactive activities, a supportive environment, and a consistent class routine, enhance focus and motivation for all learners.
Please have a small whiteboard, dry erase marker & eraser OR a notebook & pencil when you log into class. A notebook is also needed as a spelling journal to work on at home.
