Each week we play a new game to work on learning and using new vocabulary appropriate for English or ESL speakers. Learners learn strategies to speak confidently and use a variety of language skills as we explore our theme.
Class experience
This ongoing class is the private version of my Confident Speakers Clubs. It is for learners that love to play games and talk about new topics but would prefer individual attention. Each class will start with a greeting and an introduction to the theme through a tongue twister. Next, we will play a game while learning vocabulary related to that theme. A variety of styles of game play will be used, including but not limited to Battleship, Clue, Life, Candyland, Jeopardy, and many others....
This class is taught in English.
Learners will learn new vocabulary words related to the theme each week. Learners will practice many language skills such as taking turns, making sentences, answering questions, and asking for more information. Learners will learn to be confident speakers. Learners will learn about game mechanics and what makes a good game. Learners will have fun!
I have been a speech-language pathologist for over 20 years and love to help kids acquire new language and communication skills. In graduate school, I taught several sections of interpersonal communication and public speaking classes. I have also been an active 4-H leader for over 10 years and helped many of my club members become amazing public speakers and presenters. I have always loved to help kids play with public speaking, language, and vocabulary skills. I always hope they will leave my class as better communicators.
Homework Offered
There will be a worksheet with vocabulary words each week. Learners will be encouraged to practice the words to promote carryover of the terms.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

There will be a worksheet with vocabulary words after class. Learners will be encouraged to practice the words to promote carryover of the terms. This handout will always be black and white to preserve printer ink, but it can also be completed on a device if a printer is not available.
Themes and vocabulary will be kept age appropriate and I will do my best to steer the conversation away from controversial topics.
All games and material will be created for this class by the instructor.
