1 hour per week. Every week, students will be given a role. Worksheets for each role will be provided on the classroom page. Students will be expected to complete the worksheet assigned to their role and present it to the class. This should take around 5-15 minutes to complete depending on the role. On the 5th and 8th weeks, students will be asked to present their major assignments. This should take around 15-30 minutes to complete.Assessment
At the end of the course, each student will be given a report card with personalized feedback and recommendations for the next steps. They will also receive a certificate upon completion.Class Experience
This course is designed to boost your child's self-esteem, confidence, and verbal and non-verbal communication. I am a strong believer in learning through play and my classes and teaching style reflect that. I will provide a lot of fun games and activities that kids will enjoy as they strengthen their communication skills. In this class, I will create a learning environment where students will enjoy themselves and feel comfortable enough to take on challenges and motivate each other as well as provide constructive feedback to each other for further improvement. The following is the course breakdown: Day 1: Introduction - What is public speaking? - Why is it important? - Get to know each other - Let's make an introduction speech! - Manage your anxiety - Let go of the fear and start enjoying public speaking Day 2: Let's learn about being charismatic - Learn how to captivate the audience with your speech content - Practicing charisma through persuasion - Creating a persuasion speech and delivering it Day 3: Non-verbal communication - Let's master charisma by adding non-verbal communication to our speech content - Volume, body language, posture, eye contact - Introduction to a major assignment Day 4: Debate Skills and Art of Assertiveness - How to master debating - How to be assertive when presenting your views Day 5: Increasing confidence and Growth mindset Through Feedback! - Presenting our major assignment - Being our best critic by giving ourselves constructive feedback. - Continuing debate skills Day 6: Debate and Impromptu: - Practicing in-class impromptu debates - Practicing in-class impromptu speeches - Final assignment will be introduced Day 7: Non-verbal communication part 2: - hand gestures, vocal tone, facial expressions Day 8: Final assignment and Putting it all Together! - Presenting our final assignment - Giving and receiving feedback - Course review ** Bonus: Students will receive a report card with personalized feedback and next-step suggestions upon completion. ** Bonus: Students will receive a certificate upon completion The following are the learning objectives of this course: 🎤 Increase confidence and self-esteem Introduce ourselves with confidence and etiquette 🎤 Cultivate a growth mindset 🎤 Let go of anxiety when presenting 🎤 Master oral communication 🎤 Master non-verbal communication 🎤 Have a charismatic impact on the audience 🎤 Increase critical thinking skills 🎤 Master debate skills
Learning Goals
The goal for these classes is for children to confidently communicate and express themselves, no matter how big or small the crowd may be. This will be done by practicing exercises that increase confidence as well as by providing students with a safe and non-judgemental environment, where they can openly express their ideas.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Some student's may experience shyness and anxiety when it comes to speaking in front of an audience. Parents are welcome to be present with their child for support.
