What's included
4 live meetings
1 hrs 40 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Students will be challenged to practice narratives throughout the week so they will for more relaxed when speaking in class. This homework will be informal and entirely optional but will help their confidence level.Class Experience
Students will learn public speaking in a fun, interactive way through activities that are age appropriate. The first class will begin with the discussion of the importance of public speaking as well as ways to make speaking less stressful. The activity will include each learner speaking for approximately thirty seconds at a time in a continuous story telling setting. We also learn how to give detail. The second class will include a pretend narrative which they will have opportunity to plan out prior to speaking. They will attempt to speak for greater than 30 seconds without repeating or fillers. We will also learn how to give directions. The third class will include an impromptu game in which students will connect two different topics for at least one minute. We will then practice conflict resolution. The fourth class will include a “Would You Rather” game where students will explain their selection and well as how to tell someone the word no without appearing contrary. We will also progress from allowing them to speak independently with the video off, if that is their preference, to a final presentation on screen that includes some body language. The ultimate goal is positive reinforcement to increase confidence. If this class should fill, notification of a requested transfer must be received at least three days prior so the vacated spot can be filled. Thank you!
