Class Experience

WHAT WILL WE TEACH?
- We will teach the basic taekwondo techniques that a beginning student needs to learn to take their first test. There are just a few modifications due to the class being online. We will also teach some character building traits important to the philosophy of, and character building nature of, taekwondo.

WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC CURRICULUM AND CLASS STRUCTURE?
We will start with...
- Stretching (2-3 minutes)
We will weave in some agility drills and calisthenics throughout (3-5 minutes)
- Bouncing Drills, Jumping Jacks, Push-Ups, Squats, Lunges, etc.
The bulk of the class will be specific taekwondo techniques and combinations (20-25 minutes)
- Punching - Center Punch, Under Punch, Side Punch, & Back Fist
- Blocking - Down Block, In Body Block, High Block, & Out Body Block
- Kicking - Front Snap Kick, Axe Kick, Roundhouse Kick & Knee Strike
We will end with a short discussion (2-5 minutes)
- The Martial Art Creed #1 and it's meaning (To build true confidence, through knowledge in the mind, honesty in the heart, and strength in the body)
- The meaning and importance of the word "Confidence"

HOW WILL WE TEACH/WHAT IS OUR STYLE?
- We are upbeat teachers that teach by demonstration - We will explain the exercise while we demonstrate it. Some drills will be fast and fun, and some will go slower and have more explanation.
- We generally count out the repetitions and do the motions WITH the students.

HOW WILL THE LEARNERS INTERACT WITH US AND WITH EACH OTHER?
- We try to engage students in a few different ways 1. Training together, 2. Spotlighting a student to demonstrate a technique learned, 3. Giving a shout out when we see a good technique, 4. Giving constructive feedback, 5. Sharing in a discussion at the end of class.

IS THERE ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE NEEDED?
- This is a trial/beginner program so no previous knowledge or experience is required!

Parental Guidance
Because this class involves moving our body in a workout, please be aware of the following to ensure safety: 1. Make sure your child has ample room, he/she should be able to take two good sized steps in any direction. 2. It is better to train without shoes, it reduces the chances of slipping and your child can kick more easily. 3. Keep a water bottle close by if needed. 4. We will do a little stretching, but it is always a good idea for your child to stretch a few minutes before class to reduce any chance of pulling a muscle. 5. Younger students should be supervised to make sure they are able to follow directions and train safely.
Supply List
OTHER NOTES:
- Come wearing workout clothing. Long pants is preferable because we will be kicking. Some good examples are sweats, track pants, leggings or yoga pants.
- It is best, but not mandatory, if we can see the entire student. We can give better feedback that way.
