In this semester class students will think like a designer to create projects in p5.js. Students will learn various coding skills. Throughout the lessons coding skills will include sequencing, loops, conditionals, variables, sensors, operators, debugging and more. 

The class will be highly interactive since we cap our classes at 6 students. The teacher will work with students to create a projects they can be proud of while answering questions and providing support along the way.

Here’s what your student can expect to do during class:
- Welcome + Introductions (5 minutes)
- Code a project in JavaScript/p5.js (45 minutes)
- Student Project Showcase + Say Goodbye (5 minutes)

Week 1: Intro to p5.js and drawing (Bear project)
Week 2: Understanding Coordinates (Create Your Own Drawing)
Week 3: Understanding Sequencing (Collector Game)
Week 4: Reviewing Sequencing (Collector Game)
Week 5: Understanding Variables (Mr. Trash Wheel)
Week 6: Reviewing Variables (Mr. Trash Wheel)
Week 7: Understanding Methods and Arguments (Iron Man Game)
Week 8: Understanding Loops  (Iron Man Game)
Week 9:  Understanding Conditionals (Dodge the Meteors)
Week 10: Reviewing Conditionals (Dodge the Meteors)

Your student will need:
- A p5.js account. Visit https://editor.p5js.org/ to create a free account.
- Access to a laptop or desktop computer with Zoom installed and screen-sharing enabled
- An internet connection of 3mbs+
- A working speaker, microphone and webcam - all Windows and Mac operating systems of the past five years are supported

Note: iPads are not recommended with this class. Students will need a keyboard.  Please make sure an adult is on hand for the first five minutes of class to help set-up and tackle troubleshooting.
Learning Goals
After completing this course, students will be comfortable coding and creating projects with p5.js. Even more importantly, they will have gained an understanding of foundational coding concepts including sequencing, loops, conditional statements, and variables. At Cypher, our goal is to help students become future-ready, and we know that these core skills will serve our students for the rest of their lives.

Parental Guidance
Students will use p5.js to participate in class. Students must access their own p5.js account using a laptop or a computer in class (no smartphone or tablets). Students will use their own account to code while following instructions from the teacher.
