This course is NOT for new/inexperienced coders. This is an Intermediate level class. A coding assessment will be sent to enrolled learners to confirm prerequisites are met and that learners at an intermediate level. This is a project based class. Students will have a project due at the end of the class. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a live class, but it will include supplemental videos in the Outschool classroom to reinforce the lessons. The project will be learner directed, but I will provide instructions on what the project should include. Any required experience or knowledge learners need? Learners should have 6+ months of coding experience PRIOR to enrolling in this class. This course is 12 weeks and is intended for students that want to focus only on coding and creating a game. This course does not teach building techniques or how to use Roblox Studio. This class is only for learning how to code in Roblox Lua. Topics covered ---------------------- Week 1 - Project management - The first week is all about prepping for their project. Students are encouraged to start a new project for this course. Information will be provided about the kind of code that should be included in their project. Week 2 Variables and Data Types -- This assumes students have experience coding. Week 1 is designed to reinforce their knowledge of variables and data types in coding. This knowledge will used in their project. ----------------------------------------------- Week 3 Loops -- Students will learn about loops and use them in their project. ------------------------------------------------- Week 4 Conditional Statements ------------------------------------------------- Week 5 Basic Functions Week 5 is a checkpoint. I will check in with learners and parents regarding the progress of their project. Feedback will be provided about their progress to keep them on track. Week 6 Roblox Services (ServerStorage, Replicated Storage, etc.) This class does NOT teach data stores. Week 7 - Events Week 8 - Events (continued) - This focuses on client server communication Week 8 is a checkpoint. I will check in with learners and parents regarding the progress of their project. Feedback will be provided about their progress to keep them on track. Week 8 Students will be able to share their project with the class to discuss progress. Week 9 Animation Services Week 10 Advanced Functions (remote and non remote) Week 11 - Game Management - This week is all about wrapping up the project. Week 12 - Students will have the opportunity to share their project with the class. ------------------------------------------------ How is the class structured? How will I teach? This is a hands on course. Learners will be expected to type their own code. I will screen share so that learners can see script, but learners will be expected to write their own code. This course does not use the marketplace toolbox, imported items, or any third party applications. All work is done in Roblox Studio. Any required experience or knowledge learners need? Required experience or knowledge learners need prior to enrolling in the class: -- Students must have experience using Roblox Studio to make games. The course does not cover how to use Roblox Studio. The course focuses on coding only. -- Familiar with using a Windows/Mac computer (Roblox Studio requires a Windows or Mac computer) Examples include but are not limited to the following tasks with little or no assistance: -- Knows how to copy and paste -- open and close a window -- Create upper and lower case letters (Example would be RoBlox STudio) -- Understand how to type punctuation/symbols that share the same key (Example would be : and ; or + and = ). -- Able to identify ALL letters, numbers, and punctuation on a keyboard. -- Basic math skills. Proficient in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division -- Aware of the typing/keyboard expectation. This class does NOT use Block coding (like what is seen in Scratch Programming). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This class is for students that have MORE than 6 months of Roblox Lua CODING experience.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
My name is Miss Jennifer. I enjoy teaching coding and video game design. It is a joy to be able to teach what I love to do.
My coding classes are both fun and educational, focusing on fundamental programming skills that have real-world applications. Even if your interest in Roblox or game design fades, the knowledge you gain will remain valuable and useful in any field you pursue.
I am also an event organizer, and I have run a few virtual gaming tournaments here on Outschool. If you have any ideas for other tournaments I should create in the future, let me know.
Roblox is not just something I teach. I LOVE Roblox! When I am not teaching, I am on Roblox just like you. I play ERLC, Pls Donate, Dandy's World, Bladeball, Berry Ave., Strongest Battlegrounds, Dress to Impress, and Elemental Grounds. Recently, I started playing Fisch and Pressure.
I have taught over 3,500 students here on Outschool how to code and create their own games. I hope to see you in my classes soon!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About my teaching style:
Thorough and Patient
--I focus on building strong foundational skills in programming, ensuring students understand concepts deeply rather than rushing through material.
--I encourage students to take their time, explore, and ask questions, allowing them to learn at their own pace in a structured yet flexible environment.
--Hands-on examples and interactive lessons keep students engaged and active in the learning process.
---------------------------------------------
Encouraging Discovery and Independence
--My teaching approach prioritizes creativity and problem-solving over rote memorization or copying and pasting code.
--I guide students to build their own projects, reinforcing the idea that learning comes from doing, not just following steps.
--Students are responsible for typing their own code and troubleshooting their own errors, developing real problem-solving skills.
-----------------------------------------------
Real-World Skills Beyond Roblox
--While many students start with an interest in Roblox and Lua, I ensure they gain transferable programming skills applicable to other languages and platforms.
--My lessons introduce broader programming concepts that apply to software development, game design, and real-world coding challenges.
--I prepare students for a future beyond Roblox by teaching coding principles that will remain valuable as their interests evolve.

About me:
I was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. I now live in Nevada (Pacific Standard Time Zone). I have always enjoyed technology. When I was a kid, I would take electronics apart and often would break them in the process, which my parents were not too happy about haha. "The machine is for homework ONLY!" Apparently the family computer could not run without a CPU. Who knew? HAHA.
As a kid, I would read my aunt's medical books and write what I found in C programming.
#include <stdio.h>
int main() {
char funnyBoneDefinition[] = "The ulnar nerve runs near the surface of the elbow, and when hit, it can cause a tingling sensation in the forearm and fingers, often referred to as hitting the 'funny bone.'";
// Print the definition using the variable
printf("Funny Bone: %s\n", funnyBoneDefinition);
return 0;
}
My primary coding languages are Lua/Roblox Luau, C, python, java, and C#. I have over 8+ years of K-12 tutoring experience. I look forward to working with you soon!
