Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner - Advanced Level
Welcome to the Computer Building & Tech Masterclass! This is the perfect club for anyone who loves gaming and wants to learn more about computers. In this weekly class, you'll learn how to build your own gaming computer from scratch and how to upgrade the one you have. You'll also learn some advanced maintenance techniques that will help keep your computer running smoothly.

Here are just a few of the things you'll learn in this class:

-How to build a computer from scratch
-Which components are essential and which ones aren't (and why)
-What RAM does, how much you need, and what to look for when buying it
-How to install an operating system on your new computer

We'll spend time each week researching computer parts, budgeting, sourcing, and checking compatibility. Building a computer from components can be a really fun project, but it can be confusing for students just starting out. That's where I come in! I'll be here to guide you through the process and answer any questions you have.

In this class, often discuss all sorts of related topics, like video games, streaming, software, and technology industry news but always bring it back to how it can improve our existing or new build projects. This is a learner-driven class, so you can expect to have a say in what we talk about each week. You'll also have the chance to help other students with their computer builds, using your own experience and knowledge.

To get the most out of this class, it's important to have a working camera and microphone. This will allow you to participate fully in the discussion and get help with your projects. So if you're excited about computers and want to learn more, sign up for the Computer Building & Tech Masterclass today!

Parental Guidance
Streaming and gaming is a big deal for students right now. I have seen a massive increase in the number of students leaving traditional consoles for gaming PCs over the last year, but many do not know what they have purchased. Building a computer from scratch can sound daunting, but once accomplished, it becomes a source of pride and can save hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Supply List
We will discuss, and I will show a variety of software and hardware in this class. I AM NOT SUPPLYING PARTS OR DICTATING ANY PARTICULAR PART LIST. Generally, some small screwdrivers, static-free bags, and a grounding strap are helpful once we get to the actual building part of the club. I will work with students and develop a few different combinations of engineered parts to be compatible with each other.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have been a gamer for most of my life, and it was partly from the desire to expand my gaming that I built my first computer when I was 12. I never really looked back after that. Due to Outschool, I find myself mainly streaming for work now, and the time has come to build another computer. The club will last at least as long as it takes me to research and create my machine.
