Class Experience

The learning goal from this club is to give students something to look forward to that can be social, technical and still lets them learn about technology, compatibilities, and the underlying processes that drive our computer saturated world.
I have been a gamer for most of my life, and it was partly from the desire to expand my gaming that I built my first computer when I was 12. I never really looked back after that. Due to Outschool, I find myself mainly streaming for work now, and the time has come to build another computer. The club will last at least as long as it takes me to research and create my machine.
Building a computer as time allows.
We will discuss, and I will show a variety of software and hardware in this class. I AM NOT SUPPLYING PARTS OR DICTATING ANY PARTICULAR PART LIST. Generally, some small screwdrivers, static-free bags, and a grounding strap are helpful once we get to the actual building part of the club. I will work with students and develop a few different combinations of engineered parts to be compatible with each other.
My assessment for this club is simple. Does it work, and then is it still working?
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Streaming and gaming is a big deal for students right now. I have seen a massive increase in the number of students leaving traditional consoles for gaming PCs over the last year, but many do not know what they have purchased. Building a computer from scratch can sound daunting, but once accomplished, it becomes a source of pride and can save hundreds or thousands of dollars.
