With this class you will receive an individualized and comprehensive report of your struggling reader's needs in phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, and reading comprehension.
Class experience
In this one time class I will perform a series of research based, informal assessments to determine your child's reading, spelling, and comprehensions skills. I will identify specific areas of need and provide a comprehensive report to help you set goals and make a plan for your child's unique needs. I will work with your child to assess their skills in the areas of: - Alphabetic Awareness (depending on age) - Phonemic Awareness - Single word decoding - Single word spelling - Reading...
Students and parents will leave with a better understanding of reading strengths and weaknesses, and be able to make a plan for improvement and future success.
I have 6 years of experience teaching online and in the classroom. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham Approach and have been working with children with specific learning disabilities since Jan. 2021. These assessments are used to inform my instruction everyday with my students. After an initial assessment, lessons are designed based on each child's individual needs and goals. The assessments are re-used every six months to check student's progress and make sure we are meeting their goals.
In order to properly assess your child's writing and spelling skills, we will be using an interactive online whiteboard.
For this, you will need the following materials:
- Tablet
* This will allow students to read and write as they would on paper.
- Stylus
* Used for writing on the tablet.
- Explain Everything app (free)
* This online whiteboard allows us to write and interact in real time.
Your tablet must be able to access and download the ExplainEverything app.
For this, you will need the following software updates:
iPadOS - version 13.6 or higher
Android - 6.0 Marshmallow
*You do not need to buy a membership, I will send you a code for the ExplainEverything project before our meeting.*In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
