In this language arts class, students will alternate each week between reading fiction, reading informational text, writing expository essays, and writing persuasive essays. These are the four main pillars of English Language Arts education. Each week we will focus on a different learning goal that fits into one of those four categories. This is an interactive class in which students will be encouraged to engage in discussions, write in the chat box, and collaborate on Google Docs...
Students will develop reading comprehension of fictional texts. Students will develop reading comprehension of informational texts. Students will develop expository writing skills. Students will develop persuasive writing skills.
Bachelors of Science in Secondary English Language Arts Education, Minor in Elementary Education Master of Arts in Education and Curriculum Development 3 Years Experience Teaching English Language Arts Online Florida Teacher Certification in English Grades 6-12 with Reading and ESOL Endorsement
There will be an extension activity given each week that students can complete for feedback if they choose.
I can provide a letter grade upon request.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students should be comfortable with writing a five-paragraph essay before this class. Five-paragraph essays include an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph should be around 4-5 sentences. If your learner has never written a five-paragraph essay before, please let me know and I can recommend a prerequisite class.
