In this flexible course learners will explore the lives and music of Classical period composers including Haydn, Salieri, Clementi, Mozart, Maria Theresa von Paradis, Beethoven and Schubert. There are no live meetings for this class. Each Monday the week's outline and posts will be added to the classroom. Posts will include a video lesson with biographical information, a listening guide, listening selections and a link to a Kahoot! Challenge. Learners will start with a video lesson that includes biographical information presented with visuals through PowerPoint slides. While listening to the video, learners will complete the biographical portion of the listening guide. Next learners will listen to musical selections including audio and/or video examples. Learners are encouraged to write adjectives describing the musical selections and rate each piece on the listening guide. Learners may also share thoughts about the music on the Outschool classroom. Next learners will complete any activities on the listening guide. Listening guides will vary each week and will include things such as puzzles, listening maps, acrostic poems and/or drawing activities. Some weeks may include additional activities and/or coloring pages that are optional for the learner to complete. Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.
I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
