In this class, we will be covering your student's entire middle school science curriculum. The class meets once per week in Virtual Reality where we study and work together to complete one of 64 units which I call "Mastery Badges." Students will learn everything they need to know for middle school science grades 5-8.
Mr. Bertoch is a middle school science teacher with more than a decade teaching experience. He was teacher of the year in one district and nominated as teacher of the year in a second district. Mr. Bertoch has three degrees. Two in science, and one in curriculum development.
Students can expect approximately 5 hours per week of homework.
Students will need a VR headset and an Engage VR account (free). Please set these up prior to your first class. Classes begin in Zoom and all classes are recorded in Zoom. Once all students are logged into Zoom, Mr. Bertoch provides the Engage VR code, and students then meet up in the metaverse, while leaving the Zoom connection active.
Students who complete each packet successfully are awarded a Mastery Badge for the packet. A mastery badge is a certificate that can be kept on file to demonstrate to the State that the student passed off the curriculum for that topic. Students who take the entire course will be awarded 64 certificates.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
Class is taught in Virtual Reality. Which requires students to have access to a virtual reality headset, such as a Quest, Vive, Steam VR, etc. The class uses Engage VR which is a free app that can be downloaded on most VR platforms.
Students will need to download Engage VR and open an Engage VR account prior to our first meeting.
