In this ongoing course learners will practice strategies and skills needed to be successful on ELA examinations. As a New York state certified ELA and Special Education teacher, I am very familiar with common core reading and writing standards. This course is designed for learners that are preparing for an upcoming assessment. Learners who are just looking to take their comprehension and writing skills to the next level are also welcomed. I do advise that if your learner is a reluctant reader, writer, or test taker you look at my novel study classes where learners can discuss literature in a more relaxed fashion. Lessons will rotate between multiple choice questions, short response answers, persuasive essays, expository essays, and narrative stories. I try to plan material around what tests the learners are preparing for. I primarily use assessments from New York state and California. I encourage learners to work on their writing outside of class so that live class time can be used to provide learners with feedback. Learners can discuss their work and guide the teacher through their decision making process when structuring a longer essay. I use this opportunity to focus on a learner's strengths so when given an essay choice, they can make a confident decision.
