In this one-time class, students will learn the basics of "commercial acting" as they make up their own commercials using improvisation, break-out rooms, and scene partners.

Class experience

Students will learn the basics of acting in a commercial, and have a blast creating commercials on their own, using silly characters/personalities. A lot of my students say they go on to practice making up commercials on their own, performing them for friends and family. Even if a student isn't "serious" about acting, this class is a great way to use extra energy or creativity while learning more about a specific type of acting. Because of my small group structure, students also find that they made a new friend while creating these commercial skits together!
I am a "working actor" outside of class (and COVID), and have lots of experience in commercials, auditioning for professional TV shows/films, and writing/producing my own scripts. Specifically for commercials, I have acted in 3 professional commercials and have gone through lots of training just for "commercial acting." I often share with my students what it's like to act in a commercial, and answer any questions they have about acting on set. I didn't start acting in film/commercials until I was older, so I think it's really cool to be able to introduce these specific areas to kids, even if they aren't interested in pursuing it later. Outside of commercials and film, I am also an actor for the Murder Mystery Company, which is an interactive-based improv troupe that performs murder mystery shows around the country. I have taught in camps and after school programs for years, and one of my campers' favorite classes were improv. They love just being in the moment, creating, making up scenarios, and interacting with others. I've seen improv & acting positively affect so many kids because it really builds confidence and listening skills. Acting is a great way to get their mind off of every day stresses, and I love seeing them be able to let go, be in the moment, and have fun! I've worked really hard to create curriculum catered to virtual learning, and I'm always learning fun and new ways to teach certain topics along the way. As always, feel free to read my full bio and watch my video on my profile page. Hope to see ya in the classroom!

No props are required, however, if the students has an interesting object, toy, or prop, they are encouraged to have it handy for class, because we may be able to use it for a commercial!

Hello! Thank you so much for coming to my profile. I started teaching on Outschool during the pandemic in 2020, and I have had the teaching bug ever since. I've gotten to know so many great kids through Outschool, and some have been with me since...
