12 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn the basics of digital coloring for comics in a fun and stress-free forum. Classes will consist of short demonstrations on a stage of the comic coloring process followed by pain free critiques of work. A stage of the comic coloring process will be demonstrated and assigned in each class meeting, and out of class projects will be turned in to the teacher electronically. Learner progress will be evaluated through the review of student work and teacher feedback on that work. Classes/lessons will consist of the following: - Intro to Photoshop - Line Art Setup - Intro to Color Theory - Flatting Process - Light, Light Sources and Light Direction - Color Rendering (Light, Shadow and Special Effects) Each assignment will focus on one of the concepts above. Each week, the instructor will model the concept, the students will be asked to repeat the task during class while the instructor provides aid and feedback. Student will then be asked to continue work on the project outside of class time. By the end of the class, students will be able to fully color and render comic book line art representing color, value, light, shadow and emphasis in the image. I believe in positive reinforcement of student work to encourage student interest in creating art. For this reason, no projects will be graded. This is an introduction to the use of adobe photoshop as a tool in the collaborative process of creating comics.
