This is a class for learners in Middle or High School. We will start by going over What makes comics a unique medium and how it can work to make great stories come alive. Most of the focus will be on creating a short comic, no more than 5 pages, ideally less. we will be touching on how to create an ongoing, longer-form comic, but it will not be a focus of the class. Each day of the class will be going over the various steps needed to create a comic 1- the idea phase and sketching phase 2-...
A little about myself: Hello, I'm David Shear, I'm a professionally trained cartoonist who majored in cartooning at The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, NY. I've been drawing comics for years as personal projects and have a graphic novel in the works.
I would recommend students who feel inclined to work outside of class on their comic. This will very much be a class where students get out what they put in.
1. Paper Suggestions: 9x12, 11x14 or 14x17 Drawing paper or Sketch Pad 2. Drawing supplies: Pencils Erasers 12 or 18inch ruler 3. Inking supplies: Micron Pens- Black- 05, 08 Brush Markers-(any brand ) Black, Sharpie markers -Black. If you have any questions about the supplies don't hesitate to message me, my inbox is always open and I will get back to you within a day.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
