Class Experience

Comic Book Script Writing will show students how to turn an existing short story or novella into script format. They will learn how to set up a scene, manage camera angles and adjust character dialog.
Students will need to submit a short story before the 1st class.

Lesson 1:
Parts of a Play
 Comic Book Script Writing is very similar to the elements of a play. Students will explore playwriting fundamentals and see how they apply to comic creation.

Lesson 2:
21 Fiction Writing Styles
 Students will choose a comic book style for their story and begin main character development.

Lesson 3:
Freewriting Workshop
 Students will finalize their comic book style, begin freewriting exercises and learn types of conflict to trouble their main characters and enrich their story.

Lesson 4:
Three Act Format.
 Students will develop both their protagonist and antagonist giving strengths and weaknesses to both. They will also adapt their story to the Three Act Format.

Teacher expertise and credentials
William Alfred Council is a Freelance Writer / Digital Artist. He has a B.A. in English from Columbia University and is a Desert Storm Marine Corps Veteran. He is also a member of the League of Graphic Novel Educators.
 
A lifelong fan of comics, William interned at Marvel Comics under the tutelage of Editor Gregory Wright. Both a Writer and Graphic Artist since 1992, William began servicing individuals, local churches and organizations under the company name: New Vision Enterprises.
 
Besides Computer Consultations, William has also taught basic business skills and successfully found funding for Not for Profit organizations. He is currently the President of Zephaniah Comics. He has published Heroic Visions: Superhero Role Playing Adventure Game, Against the E.S.T.: Heroic Visions Adventure Module and two ongoing comic books - The Zephaniah Chronicles and Ogden Tales.
