Welcome to Comic Book Art and Storytelling with Procreat Art Club! In this 6 week class, students in grades 4 - 9th will dive into the exciting world of comic book art and storytelling. Are you ready to design your own comics? With our expert guidance, you'll learn how to lay out comics just like Marvel or DC. Create amazing action scenes, splash pages and panels, and design your own unique stories like a real comic book artist.

Course Details:

Duration: a 6 week - 55 minutes class. Meets once a week for 6 weeks
Learning Style: Student-centered learning with collaborative projects
Prerequisites: None, this class is designed for beginners

Course Goals and Topics:

Learn how to lay out comic strips
Get experience designing characters from scratch
Understand what goes into the development process for creating comics
Learn to combine both traditional art and digital art together
Review various art tools and use them to create exciting comic art projects

Our class is structured around hands-on learning with a focus on student creativity and collaboration. Each day we'll start with a brief introduction to the day's topic followed by a demonstration of the techniques we'll be using. Then, we'll jump right into creating our own comic strips, characters, and stories. Our teaching style is supportive and encouraging, with a focus on individual learning and growth.

Throughout the class, learners will have plenty of opportunities to interact with both the instructor and each other. We'll use a variety of teaching tools such as lecture, games, slides, video clips, and discussion to keep things engaging and interactive. No prior experience is required, just a love of art and storytelling!

By the end of the class, students will have developed a strong foundation in comic book art and storytelling. They'll have a portfolio of their own unique comic strips, characters, and stories that they can be proud of. Not only will they have gained valuable artistic skills, but they'll also have developed their creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities.
Week 1 - learn an Intro to Procreate, Brainstorming story ideas, Learning about storyboards, Layout design for our comic.
Week 2 - Continuing to write and edit our story, Learning how to edit our comic panels, fit our dialog in each panel, and Learn how to draw voice bubbles.
Week 3 - Learning about facial expressions and conveying those feelings to the viewer, Learning “line of action” to give the body “flow” and movement.  
Week 4 - Learning about Color Theory and deciding on the right color theme.
Week 5 - Create a cover for your comic books
Week 6 - Review and add finishing touches to your comics and get ready to show them off!

The students will need to have an iPad and Procreate downloaded for this program. Minimum requirements for Procreate: iPad Pro (12.9-in., 11-in., and 10.5-in. models) iPad (6th Generation, 2018) iPad Mini 4 It Costs $12/ per user Compatible Stylus Required Both the teacher and the student will be using the Procreate App. The App is a safe environment. The kids' projects will be saved on their own device. The App takes your creativity to the next level. It is an awesome App that you can use to learn how to draw digitally. Instead of drawing with pen and paper you can draw with a stylus on your iPad.
