Comedic Creative Writing: Playing the Comedy to Inspire the Page
We will use improv theater games to inspire comedic writing. Learners will build social skills and critical thinking by learning to give feedback and work together on short writings. Reluctant writers will love this active approach.
What's included

5 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Got a budding comedic writer? Got a reluctant writer who needs some fun and socialization to get them interested? This class is for you. We will be doing improv games, no experience needed, to create fun characters and scenarios. Kids will get up and moving, playing games and having fun. We will use these games to create fun ideas and kids will write from these ideas in class with some homework. Week 1: Improv only in class, getting use to being playful, saying Yes, And and working on our storytelling skills. Week 2-3: Character games and Character Monologues. We will do character improv exercises and write a character monologue inspired by the characters we create in improv. Week 4: Creating and writing from interesting and fun environments. We will explore different environments that scenes can take place in and what creating a story by starting with the place can teach us. Week 5: Creating and writing believable relationships. In this class we will work on how to create believable relationships of all types, and will use our acting exercises to create fun stories. Week 6: Bringing it all together. In this final session, we will bring together character, environments, and relationship to finalize one of the many pieces we created in the 6 weeks. Class sessions will have both improv games and time for writing. Learners are expected to continue writing between class and may be given other students writing to give some feedback on.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I'm so excited by the prospect of working with you. I'm a teacher and learner of many things and hope to share with you all I've learned on my journey, so that you can learn and grow into your best self.
I had a 10 year career, traveling around Africa and Latin America, to develop youth employment and other social justice projects. Five years ago I started my journey as a Leadership and Diversity coach. And I've been pursing my hobby of performing live improv comedy for 3 years and teaching for just over one. From all these experiences, I hope to share with you a curiosity about yourself, our world, those that are different from us, and the systems that keep us from realizing our full potential (individually and globally). Specifically I'll teach classes on the following topics:
-Leadership Development and Skill
-Self- Awareness and Social-Emotional Intelligence
-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion topics
-Cultural Studies of countries in Africa and Latin America
-Language Building Courses in Spanish and Portuguese.
-Improv Comedy
My teaching approach is very interactive. I use experiential learning so kids will be up, moving , creating and using whatever skill we are working on. Improv classes will be all acting, games, and fun. Other topics will involve group and individual work and using what we are learning about.
I'm a mom, have worked with and taught children for years, and can't wait to work with Out School kids!
