Description
Class Experience
This class allows students the opportunity to discuss a common interests while improving their social interactions with peers.
In addition to teaching young learners, I am the mother of a “tween” gamer on the spectrum so I know the value of providing a safe space for students to share their common interest with others while working on vital social interactions. My classes are intended to be fun and interactive. Students are encouraged to participate in a manner they feel most comfortable with. My only classroom requirements is that everyone is respectful of each other and offensive language and topics are unacceptable.
Students will need access to a Nintendo Switch, a Nintendo Online subscription and the Minecraft game (Switch version)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
During class, students will need to use their Microsoft account to access the realm. Minecraft game play requires a Microsoft account, a Nintendo online subscription, a Switch game console and the Minecraft game (Switch version). Students will be invited to join my realm using a code the is only shared with students in this class. While in my realm, students will only be interacting with other students that have been invited to my realm. This game is suitable for learners 10 and up due to bloodless fantasy violence. Before a student is invited to my realm, they will need to agree to refrain from any use of inappropriate language or topics realistically understood to be inappropriate. A warning will be given once. If it continues to happen, the learner will be asked to leave the class. This has never been an issue but needs to be stated. If learners are interested in continuing to play the game together outside of class (I encourage this), gamer tags may only be shared in the classroom via private messaging, not in the chat window of our classroom or verbally. This is done to ensure the privacy and safety of every student.
To play Minecraft, students will need an established Microsoft account as well as a Nintendo online subscription. Although students will be online, they will join my realm, where access is limited to students in my class.
