Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Sarah Beurskens, and I´m excited to meet you! I am a language arts and social studies teacher. I´ve been teaching for the past 25 years and have a masters in education. Prior to teaching, I received a degree in journalism and was a reporter and photographer on a daily newspaper. I have published two books Kayaking, Riding the Rapids and Courage on the Causeway. I also create mixed media art and have sold my pieces at art walks and art fairs over the years.
As you can see, I love writing and art, but my true passion lies in teaching and having fun with my students! For many years, I created and ran a summer program called Young Authors and Artists Camp where students wrote their own stories, articles, poems and then married their writing with a piece of art they had created.
I live in a remote mountain town in the Colorado Rockies with my husband and two cocker spaniels Cinnamon and Biscuit. I have two incredible grown sons. I love kayaking the Yampa River on a warm summer day, reading a good book on a cold winter day, and taking my dogs for a ¨bike run¨ where I ride my bike and they run alongside me. (They actually smile during this.) My other skills include singing, dancing, creating game nights and whistling with my fingers--an essential life skill!
I so look forward to meeting you and hearing your stories!
