Class Experience
Students will learn about primary and secondary colors, practice basic shape identification, and hone early reading comprehension strategies by using a fun, short story that is suitable for Pre-Kindergarten level through 1st-grade level students – “Colors” by Brenda Ponnay. Participants will not need a copy of the referenced book for this session; they will be able to read along as pages are displayed on the screen. Students will improve their knowledge of colors, shapes, and reading comprehension by practicing the following: - Defining primary and secondary colors - Reviewing basic shapes - Executing listening and reading skills - Answering detailed questions about the “Colors” story - Summarizing and retelling the “Colors” story
Although no homework will be assigned, students will be encouraged to identify shapes and colors that they encounter in their daily lives.
No materials are required; students are only encouraged to use their imagination and critical thinking skills.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
During this one-day course, we will read “Colors ” by Brenda Ponnay to practice reading comprehension skills. As noted earlier, students will not need to obtain a copy of this book because they will view the book during the in-class presentation.
