Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello. My name is Jennifer Paul. I am a visual artist and have an extensive background in fine art and photography. I was trained as a fine artist and love painting and drawing. I have a BFA in Painting from Cleveland Institute of Art with a minor in Fiber Arts. I have an MFA in Fine Art from the School of Visual Art in New York City. I have taught art to children and teens of all ages including an after school art program, art museums, art galleries, and one to one art tutoring.
I also have a lot of experience working in digital photography. I have worked as a photo researcher specializing in nature, travel, and animal photography. I love bringing my background and love for nature and animals into my art classes.
Besides fine art I also love botanical illustration, crafts, and sewing. I am also currently interested in surface pattern design and exploring how color and pattern connect using digital art with Adobe Illustrator.
I am passionate about teaching kids drawing and painting including exploring color theory, patterns, shapes, design, and different art techniques. My favorite mediums are colored pencil, watercolor pencil, gouache, and watercolor painting. I also enjoy teaching digital photography with my many years of working with photography.
The subjects I use for art classes that I am most excited to share are nature including flowers, trees, birds, plants, and animals. I also enjoy teaching drawing from nature and nature journaling. I love encouraging a child to explore the seasons and nature in their outdoor environment thru art.
Another passion of mine is teaching children art appreciation by learning about different artists in art history as well as teaching them to create art inspired by different artists.
My approach to teaching is to gently nurture and encourage kids to explore my art lesson while connecting to their own creative self expression and to have fun while learning different art techniques.
